Day 1

Activity 1: Togs or Trackies?

On your blog, tell us what time of year you think is best for tourists for come and visit. Be sure to share at least three things that tourists could do while they were here in NZ.

I think that spring is the best season of the year because...

  • When the tourists come they can look at the trees full of blooming flowers that a different colours.

  • When the tourists come to visit New Zealand (NZ) they can go to the botanical gardens where all the flowers are shining bright and the sun is reflecting on the waterfall.

  • When the tourists come all they will hear and see is the birds by there winding chirping loudly but softly.

Activity 2: You are my Sunshine

On your blog, list five different things that we can do to protect ourselves from the sun this summer!

To be protected in the summer you need to...

  • PUT ON SUNSCREEN!!!
  • MAKE SURE YOU WERE A HAT!!!
  • WEAR SUN GLASSES!!!
  • SEEK SHADE!!!
  • WEAR BLACK TO STOP THE SUN BURNING YOU!!!

Activity 3: Burning Up…

For this activity, you are asked to use this information to create a graph. The graph should have a title along with the names of each city and their hottest recorded temperatures. You can draw the graph by hand or use a computer programme like Google Draw to create your graph. It’s completely up to you!

On your blog, post a picture of your graph.

  1. Good afternoon Lili,

Another fabulous post I see. I like how you've named each of your activities and made sure to include all three activities per post. You are super organised!

It does rain a lot in New Zealand during spring but as you've mentioned, there are lots of beautiful parks, gardens and tree lined driveways that tourists can visit. Good on you for mentioning the Botanical Gardens. Do you think the tourists would be able to enjoy the beach during spring as well? If so, which beach would you recommend?

You've mentioned some very important points for how to protect ourselves under the steaming hot sun. Do you usually enjoy the heat or do you prefer winter? What a smart idea to write each point using capital letters to make it stand out. You are also very clever to have warned the readers about wearing black t-shirts. The colour black absorbs the heat like a sponge so imagine driving around in a black car during summer - It would get super steamy inside!!

WOW, did you create the graph by yourself? You have put down every single city in New Zealand and I am super impressed. The information about the five hottest cities around the world has already been given to you for this activity but I'm sure you've put in lots of time and effort into creating this new one.

Do you still want to have another go at completing the activity? You must've become an expert at creating digital bar graphs so have another shot! I will give you the information below: (These numbers can also be found on the SLJ website - week 3 day 1 activities).

    Dallol: 41°C; Dasht-e Loot: 71°C; Tirat Zvi: 54°C; Kabili: 55°C; Bandar-e Mahshahr: 51°C.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'm looking forward to receiving a response from you!

    Ka kite,
    Susie
