Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori - Maori language week

Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori - Maori language week

Tēnā koutou Kātoā,

This week is Maori language week. For us as New Zealanders it is important that we celebrate Maori language week, Te reo Maori is the language of New Zealand !

Today our whole school gathered in the Te Wairua Pakiki space.

Leitupo started us off with a greeting in Maori, Stella then came and said a prayer in portuguese.

Sateki’s group was up first.

Xavier introduced himself in Maori which is called a Pepeha, when he had finished his group then started off with a dance - E te iwi e!

Stella’s group was up next.

Stella and her group did a dance to -Waka waka e e, I enjoyed seeing everyone in her group participating, they did great although I think they could’ve put more effort into there dance.

Dianne’s group was up.

Dianne introduced herself saying her Pepeha, then her group organised themselves into there positions and they did there Poi dance.

It was fascinating watching them doing there dance with the Poi’s! I don’t think I could have done it better to be honest.

Finally, it was time for my group to perform.

I introduced myself in Maori saying my Pepeha - my group did our dance with the sticks called the Te rakau using the song - E papa.
