Day 2 Activity 1, 2 & Bonus Activity

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea

After a short ride through Auckland it is time to start exploring the rest of the country. Today you are going to venture around the north island of New Zealand to look at active volcanoes, gorgeous beaches, windswept coastline and lush, green bush. As a group, you will start at Rangitoto, the largest volcano in New Zealand before driving west to Karekare, a stunning beach on the outskirts of Auckland. You will finish the day by driving north to visit Tane Mahuta, the oldest living kauri tree in New Zealand.

Activity 1: After a very busy day of sightseeing you and your group drive from Tane Mahuta to your hotel in Dargaville. When you arrive you decide to sit down and record your thoughts in your travel diary.

Before you start writing, take a minute to read more about Rangitoto island, Karekare beach and Tane Mahuta.  On your blog, tell us which of the three places you most enjoyed visiting and why.

The place I enjoyed

1.I enjoyed KareKare beach because you can swim there and do all kind of things. You can also draw on the sand and make letter's and whatever you want.

Activity 2: As an island nation, New Zealand is completely surrounded by water. It is the perfect place for people who like to swim or to sail! While in Dargaville, recovering from your busy day of sightseeing, you notice a number sailboats going by. One of the boats is manned by a young German girl named Laura Dekker. At the age of fourteen she sailed around the world the entire world by herself. You can watch a short video clip about her adventures here: Laura Dekker sailing trip.
Let’s imagine that you had the chance to interview Laura while in Dargaville. On your blog post five questions that you would ask her.

Questions I would ask Laura Dekker

  1. How many Islands have you been to.
  2. What did you feel about racing.
  3. What were you thinking when you first travelled.
  4. What did you want to do for a living.
  5. When did you start sailing.
Bonus Activity: When you finish your interview with Laura, you decide to keep on interviewing people. For this activity, your task is to conduct a real interview with an actual member of your family. Please ask them to think about their five (5) favourite things to do in the out-of-doors. They can be things that they enjoy doing on land or in the water. Post the list of outdoor activities on your blog.
Interview with my Cousin:
1. Going to the beach with the family.
2. Going for walks.
3. Going up the Mountain.
4. Going out of the country.

5. Camping at different sites.

  1. Kia ora Poitirere,

I really enjoyed reading through the list of questions that you posted for Laura Dekker as well as the list of answer that you posted from your interview with your cousin. Do you and your cousin have a lot in common? Do you also enjoy going for walks on the beach, going up the mountain, going to Rainbow's End and travelling out of the country? I love to travel! In fact, I recently returned from a trip to Cambodia and Vietnam. I had never been to either country before and I absolutely loved both. The food was amazing (very fresh and tasty) and the scenery was unlike anything that I had experienced before.

The weather was also VERY hot. It was 39-40 degrees most days and really humid. Have you ever experienced really hot weather? It was hard to walk around for very long without feeling tired so we generally went out in the morning and then went back to our hotel in the afternoon for a swim and a break from the heat...

Keep up the great work with your blogging, Lily. I wonder what you will discover next...

    Cheers!
    Rachel
